The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology (headed by Dr. Josefina Castro-Fornieles) is specialized in top-level clinical care and research in psychiatric disorders such as Schizophrenia, Affective disorders, Eating Disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder and Substance Abuse Disorders. Research projects comprise clinical, pharmacological, neuropsychological and neuroimaging aspects. Research into the efficacy and safety of medication treatment for psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents is on the priority list. The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology has about 1000 new patients per year. The staff of the team includes a total of 14 child and adolescent psychiatrists and 12 clinical psychologists. The center has inpatient (with 22 beds), day hospital and outpatient units. The Department is also part of The Biomedical Research Centre on Mental Health Network (CIBERSAM), The Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) and it is a Consolidated Research Group, accredited by Generalitat de Catalunya (SGR 1119).
Fundacio Clinic per a la Recerca Biomedica (FCRB) was created to manage the research activities of Hospital Clinic I Provincial de Barcelona (HCPB), a third party to FCRB. Hospital Clinic is a leading Spanish center for medical research.
